Student Services

Returning to the classroom after a few or several years can be intimidating. The College of General Studies (CGS) offers a wide variety of one-on-one, peer, and group-tutoring options as well as skills-building workshops to help you succeed in your courses and meet your academic goals. As a CGS student, you have free and full access to Pitt resources and services, including the University's excellent Math Assistance Center, Writing Center, and Academic Resource Center.

CGS and OVS Writing Tutoring

The McCarl Center offers tutoring services, including writing tutoring. Visit us for one-on-one support for developing ideas, outlining, drafting, organizing, sharpening grammar and other writing mechanics, revising, and more. We welcome all writing assignments, including (but not limited to) essays, application letters and résumés, reports, professional-communication projects, reading responses, technical research papers, and creative writing.

If you are taking any courses this spring term that require clear, concise, well-structured prose, consider making a writing consultation appointment with our writing tutors, April Flynn and Liberty Ferda.
